TSA under fire for spending $47,600 on app that points left or right


The Transportation Security Administration came under fire Wednesday after it emerged the agency spent $47,000 on an app that points left or right -- something tech experts say could have been created by a novice coder in a day.

According to documents obtained by a Freedom of Information Act request by developer Kevin Burke, the TSA paid $336,413 as part of a larger $1.4 million contract with IBM. 

A TSA spokesman later told Mashable that $47,600 was paid for developing the app and the $336,000 was awarded in a 2013 contract more generally for “mobile application development.”  More
